Becoming a Participant

Want to Play?

What it means to be a Member of N.A.K.?

Our Sports Heroes have always been those who understood that their craft was a conduit for inspiring and enacting good, as much as simply playing the game and having fun. We want our members to be both consistent and fierce competitors on the field, and present themselves as beacons of Hope and Humanity off the field.

Women in N.A.K?

First, ABSOLUTELY!  THE EQUALITY CLAUSE, Each Team MAY have as many or as few Women per team. However, this DOES NOT mean, the Team will have to stagger the kicking line-up.  And, there is NO requirement for Women on the Field at once. The THE EQUALITY CLAUSE, also includes playing time minimums. (see below)

Reason we require 13 people for an 8-on-8 field?

Reason one: We all can't be expected to be available or healthy for every game, and to avoid any Forfeiture Fines (see Fines) and to always have games. Each Team MUST field a MINIMUM of Six (6) Players.

Reason two:  More People involved the Better. As a Future League we need to focus on the product and word of mouth marketing. We believe nothing is more powerful than a personal connection with the game and community.

How much playing time should you get?

Every player should play a MINIMUM of 48 Innings over a complete season. The way, in which the rulebook has been constructed, there is a level equal opportunity for both weak and strong Fielders, Kickers, Pitchers, etc. There should be no reason that each player doesn't get the same amount of  playing time.

*Tip: If your know that your GM isn't going to play you one week, because you have recorded too many Innings, and they need to play other people. Take that time, the Hour and Half (1.5 hours) you've dedicated per week to your team, and go watch another Team play. This way you can support this League and study some other teams. You can also, use that time to volunteer with your local neighborhood, community, NPO, NGO or Charity. If you do any of these and get a voucher from either the GM or Head of any one organization, and have your hours of Volunteerism recorded, at the end of the season you'll be up for The Cyrene Award.

What skills are required?

As much Fun as Kickball is. N.A.K. is competitive, and therefore should be treated with that in mind. Kickball is a mashed up of multiple sports. (Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Bowling, Soccer, Dodgeball and even Chess.) We recommend each Player read the OFFICIAL RULEBOOK of North American Kickball, and take a glance at the Traditional History of Kickball and Strategy  pieces when they appear on the Blog

            The general skills required:

-Base Running (sprinting and abruptly stopping) (there will be no base coaches)

               -Kicking  (Foot-Eye Coordination)

-Throwing (Ball Weight > .5 lbs.)

-Critical Thinking (Understanding Purpose and Strategy)

Age Requirement?

You must be at least 20 years old or greater. This is an adult game. We do not have an age cap and believe that age can equate to veteran leadership and maturity. We only require each player to be able to play a minimum amount of required innings while at the same time performing the physical requirements of the game.

Why does N.A.K. have our own Rulebook?
We've noticed a stagnation in the sport over the years, and decided to research as to why that was the case. We've found it has a lot to do with the sport being played like Baseball, and the physics of the two games are drastically different. Thus, we wrote a rulebook that complies to the natural pace of the game. Explained more in depth in Traditional History of Kickball and Strategy Blog Post (which will be updated.).

What will the League look like?

After we organize we will have a League meeting.

When will the League begin?

Depending on showcasing the sport in action throughout the month of May/June, and getting the participation and support. We plan to be underway by July 21.

A Traveling League?

Yes. Basically, just Neighborhood to Neighborhood, and nothing more. We are doing this for two reasons: One, we want to spread The Kickball Project to each part of the City. And two, we want to give each player a realistic experience of playing at Home and on the Road. For the most part, we will try to keep the fields locations consistent, but due to scheduling requirements and event fandangling we may have some field change-ups. Contact us, if you have any concerns.
